Ademe logoADEME, the French Agency for Environment and Energy Management was created in 1992 as a public establishment with industrial and commercial functions, ADEME reports to the Ministry in charge of environment, research and industry.

ADEME has unique organisation, both local and national. Its technical departments allows ADEME to play a major role in advising Ministries in charge of designing and implementing environmental protection policies, whereas its regional delegations maintain a strong local presence, in close relationships with institutional or business actors.

Involved in the implementation of policies in the field of environment and energy, ADEME promotes sustainable development as a part of its missions:

  • At a national and local level, ADEME advises local authorities and businesses in implementing sustainable development policies. ADEME acts through information campaigns to foster change in behaviour and provides technical assistance and financial support for implementing innovative projects.
  • ADEME also has a significant presence in Europe and on the international scene, through its networks of specialists and its institutional participantships. Its international action relies on networking activities, capacity building and technology transfers.
