The Unit responsible for research and development within the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (Bundesministerium fur Land- und Forstwirtschaft, Umwelt und Wasserwirtschaft, BMLFUW) co-ordinates all research activities in the mentioned topics. The co-operation involves most Austrian Universities and the main research centres and research agencies associated to the Ministry. The annual budget by the four year period 2000-2003 was on a statistical average 30 M EURO, whereas 25 M EURO are linked to the research activities within the research agencies. The Unit II/1 represents also Austrian interests in the EU Framework Programmes, COST and agricultural research activities in OECD.
The Programme for Research and Development, PFEIL 05 (2002-2005), www.dafne.at, defines the frame within contracted research and department related research is implemented. The BMLFUW will further take care for close co-operation with the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, Culture (Bundesministerium fur Bildung, Wissenschaft, Kultur; BMBWK), which co-ordinates the research programme provision.
