Mike Gardner

image_mikeMike has almost 30 years experience in the field of analytical chemistry. He is a Chartered Chemist (CChem); Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry; Secretary of Marine Pollution Monitoring Management Group sub group on Analytical Quality Control and a Member of Standing Committee of Analysts Main Committee. His key areas of expertise include advice and training in laboratory management, quality assurance and analytical quality control for laboratories in the UK and Central and Eastern Europe. He has been a lead assessor for UK Accreditation Service since 1983, for more than 10 analytical laboratories. He has undertaken research into the environmental chemistry of trace metals and studies of the form of metals in the environment and the effect of natural organic compounds on metal bioavailability.

David Hunt

image_davidDr Hunt has over 30 years' experience in environmental management. A physical chemist and oceanographer, he has directed, managed, and participated in many major projects on aspects of environmental modelling, monitoring, data and information for a wide range of clients over 25 years. His major achievements include the development of a thermodynamic model of lead speciation and solubility which helped revolutionise plumbosolvency control, the establishment of the Aquacheck check sample service, the development of UK protocols for toxicity-based discharge consents, and the drafting (for BSI) of the world’s first environmental management system standard. Recently, his work has included direction of a major project for the Environment Agency on the development of Environmental Burden methodologies for the more meaningful reporting of contaminant releases; direction of the development, for UKWIR, of a software tool for estimating greenhouse gas emissions from water companies, and management of a Defra project to update the nitrogen source apportionment for waters in England and Wales.
